Barbara Barcellona Smith Inspires Students with Tales of Culture, Courage, and Curiosity

NewSouth Books and Barbara Barcellona Smith were pleased to welcome a large student group from Churchill Academy in Montgomery for a program led by me, Barbara Barcellona Smith Friday morning.

I delighted youngsters with tales about the writing of my children's book, Let's Eat Snails! The book published by NewSouth Books offers many positive messages — about the value of family, the richness of our diverse cultures, and about not letting fear of what's different rob one of wonderful new experiences. NewSouth Books kindly praised me as a "born educator." Stating that I "had an immediate rapport with the student group. And, yes, there were lots — lots! — of questions." Not a few children departed the bookstore insisting they wanted to eat snails soon!
